Research Guides (LibGuides) Highlight Library Resources and Services
LibGuides, also called subject guides or research guides, are mini websites individually created and easily
updated by USD/Wegner librarians to highlight specific library resources or services. USD/Wegner librarians can add visual content
(pictures of the libraries’ environments, images of book jackets, library training podcasts, etc.), hypertext links to
library e-books and online journals, and links to training materials used for instructional purposes.
Benefits of LibGuides (Research Guides) include:
Benefits of LibGuides (Research Guides) include:
- • Professionally created by a health science librarian to focus on a particular health care topic and/or class. For example:
- Medical education (http://libguides.usd.edu/meded)
- Medical Ethics (http://libguides.usd.edu/medical_ethics)
- Nursing (http://libguides.usd.edu/nursing)
- EndNote (http://libguides.usd.edu/endnote)
- eBooks in Health Sciences (http://libguides.usd.edu/wegner-health-ebooks)
- Scholarly Communication (http://libguides.usd.edu/scholarlycommunication)
All the LibGuides can be viewed (best if using Chrome or Firefox) at http://libguides.usd.edu/
LibGuides provide a wealth of information for patrons and are not limited to just the library resources of USD.
Our librarians encourage library exploration of our libraries’ LibGuides or Research Guides and welcome patron
input on making these LibGuides even more useful.

Current subscription to Annual Reviews Cancelled
The publisher, Annual Reviews (AR), introduced a new pricing structure as of January 2018 which would increase our AR subscription cost by 19%. USD librarians/Wegner needed to seriously consider the continuation of our subscription to this resource because a typical increase for an ongoing subscriptions is 3-6 %. USD Libraries/Wegner made the decision to cancel AR.
Access to volumes published prior to 2018 will remain available. For content published after January 1, 2018, users can generally obtain articles via interlibrary loan. Much of the health and medicine related content becomes available in PubMed Central (PMC) after a
6 – 12 month embargo.
