This week in history

Presidents Day, officially Washington’s birthday, is a federal holiday that was recognized as honoring George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  It is sometimes understood as a day to celebrate all birthday’s and lives of the US presidents. 

President's Day Hours

In observance of President's Day the Wegner Library will have shortened hours, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on February 18th.  We will resume regular business hours 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on February 19th.

This week in history:

Rebecca Lee Crumpler studied medicine at the New England Female Medical College in 1860.  She received her M.D. in 1864. She was the first African American woman to practice medicine. To learn more about her please click on the link below.

This week in history:

James McCune Smith earned his MD from Scotland in 1837.  He returned back to the United States to practice medicine.  He became the first African American physician in the country.

This week in history January 28:

 

The New England Journal of Medicine was first published in 1812 making it one of the longest published Medical Journals.

Extreme Cold Weather

Due to the extreme cold the Wegner Library will be closing at noon today January 29th and will be closed Wednesday, January 30th.  We will resume our regular business hours Thursday, January 31st, 8:00 a.m.
